DAP_r was an inter-institutional Commonwealth-funded research project examining and mobilising a practice-based approach to doctoral research and training in design and architecture.
A collaboration of 14 Australian universities (Bond University, Charles Sturt University, Deakin University, Monash University, Queensland University of Technology, University of Adelaide, University of Canberra, University of Newcastle, University of New South Wales, University of South Australia, University of Tasmania, University of Technology Sydney, University of Western Australia) led by RMIT University, the project brought together partners from across disciplines to explore the applicability of the model in varied institutional contexts, develop allied supervisory resources, and capitalise on nascent pedagogical scholarship.
Cecilia’s research for DAP_r focused on investigating the value and contribution that doctoral training in creative practice research makes to professional practice and pedagogy. The final planned outputs were parallel research undertakings: a survey of the value and contribution of the PhD program in the industry and professional practice; and an exploration of the interface between PhD research and improved pedagogical practices in studio teaching.
